One full year out, wow, that is crazy, it sometimes seems like we just got here and other times it seems like it has been a long time.  It was Jan 2, 2023 when this Honduras Adventure mission began, since then it has been one adventure after another.  Zone conferences and district councils seem to come around very often. It is at times like these when we get out of Tela and spend a part of a day with other missionaries.  We were in Progreso this week and went to lunch afterwards with some that went to a Korean restaurant.  It was nice to go to a different kind of place to eat.  We almost always eat at Power Chicken in Progreso because they have grilled chicken, almost every other location has breaded fried chicken but the places that have grilled and thus gluten free are rare, so we have one place where we go a lot.  This Korean place seemed quite authentic,  with sushi as one of the main menu items.  We did not get sushi, but  Colleen had chicken wings, and I had a beef something or other, I have no idea what it was called, but it was really good.

While we were traveling the other day we got to talking about some of the things that we will NOT miss about Honduras, some of the things we WILL miss and some of the things that we think might be uniquely Honduras.  These lists are certainly not complete but are a pretty good sampling of what we were feeling this week.   Some of the things on these list may not mean very much to anyone else besides Colleen and I but nevertheless, they will undoubtedly will bring a smile and a story to our minds as we read through these lists another day.   So this weeks post is going to be lists the first of which will be....

Things we will not miss...                                                                                                                                  Solitude, dirty water, never ending hot summer season year round, bathroom habits in Latin America, dirt, terrible smells, food, heat, high humidity, sweating every day, the ignorance, lack of regard for life, immorality,  potholes, bad roads, poverty, lack of communication, traffic, lack of good medical care, driving at night, no regard for rules or laws, tumalo's, muddy rough roads, geckos, cockroaches, lack of access to anything, and everything,  lack of food options, and last of all for sure it is driving through Progreso.

Things we will miss.....                                                                                                                                       The missionaries, branch members, beach, warm green surroundings, study time, beautiful vistas, a $4.00 haircut, fresh fruit, driving by the beach every day,  Doris Funez- Yariani, David, Aaron, Tatiana, Los Garcia- President Daniel, y Scarleth,  German and Gloria Madrid, Raul y Dilcia, Erik y Elisa, Los Castro- Andrea, Brandon, Lybby,  President Medina (Papa Smurf) Manuel Armando y Mirna,  Los Morales-Victor,  Yanet, Samanta, Jose David,  Los Mendoza-Manuel y Martha, Tatiana,  Los Mencia-Wilfredo y Maria,  la Quince,  Los Romero-Joel, Paola y Ariana,  Diczon,  Los Bonilla - Genesis, Dulce, Cristofer, Meison, Manases, Melik, Keiln,   .... Hermanos Christofer y Lestor,  Los Rodriguez - Cristelia, Pedro Pablo, Gustavo, y tantos otros.....

Things we think are uniquely Honduras......                                                                                                        Oscar Hernandez, school busses for public transport, covered with Jesus Stickers, flashing neon lights all over them, or no lights at all,  one extreme to the other, and everything in between,  cars, buses, trucks with no lights, pigs, chickens, ducks, cows, horses, donkeys,  and dogs, on the side of the road,  garbage everywhere, power outages on a daily basis, rolling blackouts, the clothing they wear, and the lack thereof,  fresh fruit stands along every road, pulperias everywhere, piƱa, y coco's,  Tio Dolmo.

Wow, it is fun to think about each of those items and the memories that they evoke.

These are pictures for the zone conference, I wish the one of our district was clearer because we each have matching ties that we got for Christmas,  that was fun.

The District leader of another district asked Hermana Chappell if it was ok if they used this picture as their district picture on whatsapp.  They put a crown on her head because she is Princess Chappell

The missionaries did an art project by painting a picture on the cover of a Libro de Mormon, and this week they plan on giving it out to someone they contact,  they all had fun and made the books look really nice.  It is nice to add a little color to things.

I appreciate this mission and the things it has taught me.  The experiences we have had here are experiences that we would never have had in any other place or time in our lives.  We have both learned and grown so much in so many ways because of this mission.  It has been hard, but good, in so many ways.
