This looking out our front door. We park the little Nissan Kicks car that they have provided for us here inside our little front yard behind a locked gate. There are some that park their cars out on the streets but I am glad that we can lock it inside just to be safer. Garbage is picked up on Wednesday mornings so we take the trash can outside early, then bring it back in for the week. Our drinking water is from the blue 5 gallon jugs like the one sitting on the trash can in the picture. There is a truck that comes down the street several times every day except Sundays that sells water. This is what everyone has to use for drinking water. The tap water is filtered but not for drinking. We boil the tap water to use for cleaning dishes etc. The shower water is not filtered except for the little holes in the shower head which get plugged up rather often. I just unscrew it, clean it out and put it back on. Don't open your mouth in the shower or you may pay a visit to the bathroom again later, if you know what I mean. The bottles of water are 22 Limperas each. That is .89 not bad huh? We have 4 of them and rotate them but always try to have full ones here. When we get to the rainy season which is when the water from the tap is like ditch water we may have to use this water for more purposes than just drinking. We are now beginning March and it is definitely getting hotter. They say that Easter time is the hottest time of year here so that is not too far away. April and May is what they call summer because that is the hottest time of the year.
The fruit here is so good. We stopped by our favorite food stand, which are little covered stands set up along the roads where they sell fresh fruit. I asked for Mango and the girl said, "Have you tried these? They are like mango but smaller and sweeter. " She told me the name but I am not sure what she called them but boy are they good! They are smaller and they have a big pit in the middle like a regular mango, but they are so good, we will be going back there this week to buy more.
We had the Elders over for lunch today after church and the one Elder who is a Gringo, Elder Penrod said that he didn't really like mango but he ate a lot of these.
We visited a family a couple of weeks ago where the two boys, they are a mixed family like so many, but anyway the two sons were baptized 6 months ago, their names are Cristopher, and Lestor. I don't remember the dads, name but he has been inactive for years and the mom is not a member. The two sons have been active in church and seminary which is at 7 pm weekdays since they were baptized. The miracle is that since our visit the mom and dad have been to church twice now and they stay for the two hours and participate in everything, at least the dad does. She seems supportive but it is still all new for her. I have no idea if she participated in church or in the missionary discussions when her sons were baptized but they for sure had their approval. He seems to love being back involved in the church. He shared his testimony in church today and offered the opening prayer in Sunday School. It is great to see faith exercised in this manner, where with just a loving visit from us and the Elders they seem to be doing really well. He said that he is so happy to be involved again and that he knows what life is like without religion and that life is so much better and much more meaningful when you ad religion in your life. I really enjoyed his comments today. I hope that they can continue actively participating. We will certainly be stopping by their home again. It really isn't far from our house. In fact if we make a loop of it we could pass by the beach on our way. How is that for incentive to go over there?
I love Matthew chapter 8, verses two and three. "And behold, there came a leper and worshipped him. saying, Lord if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed." What faith this man had in the Savior. There are many levels of faith and what that means, but I know that the Lord can and will and does help us as we exercise faith in Him and ask for His help. Many times we are healed but it seems to me like many more times we are strengthened to be able to more easily bear the burdens of life, which are so many. I know He lives and loves and knows us to give us the strength we need to carry on. I am so grateful to my Savior for His tender mercies that He continually gives to us. We do receive strength from Him every day. Thanks to everyone back home for your love and prayers in our behalf. It means alot!
