Merrill & Colleen's Honduran Adventure

 Sunday Aug 27, 2023       That is a picture I never wanted to see!   Let alone post on the blog, but nevertheless this is our experience here and this past week has been a week not to be forgotten.  So two weeks ago we went to Guatemala on Tuesday, like I mentioned last week.  Then on Wednesday we went to zone conference in La Lima and came home to Tela that night.  On Thursday we both got sick.  We had stomach ache, cramps, and diarrhea.   Merrill took loperamide a couple of times and got a little better but then it would just come back the same.  We both took Pepto Bismol and Tums but just didn't get much better.  So this week on Tuesday we had zone conference on Tuesday in Progreso, so we went to a Dr. there after the conference and he talked with us a while and he gave us some medicine, and probiotics and said it was probably a virus that would get better soon.   Interesting story about the Dr. in ...

 Sunday August 20, 2023 Whattt???  You went on a trip in an airplane?  Well, yes,  short notice and back and forth in one day.  What a day.  We got a call from President Ostler last week on Saturday night that there was an Hermana that was not doing well emotionally and that she needed to go home and she would need escorts to go with her.  They were in the process of getting the flight plans and would let us know if it was going to be Monday or Tuesday.   So Monday morning they said that it would be Tuesday morning, with the flight leaving here at 8:15, we were going to Guatemala so that is an international flight even though it is a 35 minute flight, so for customs and everything we were to be at the airport by 6:15.  So we got up at 3:30 Tuesday morning to drive to La Lima to the mission office where we were to meet up with the Hermana as well as President and Hermana Ostler.  The Assistants drove us out to the airport and we had ...

 Sunday August 13, 2023 I remember a picture that Todd sent us one day while he was in Guatemala on his mission that was similar to this one.  Todd and his companion were walking down a dirt road and I remember thinking "That is probably what they do a lot of the time,  a lot of walking down dirt roads contacting people out in all parts of the world."  These Elders and Hermana's in our mission do a lot of walking up and down and all around this country, exactly like missionaries throughout the entire world, I suppose.  Searching out anyone willing to learn more about Jesus Christ and His gospel.  In this picture it looks like Elder Martinez is holding hands with the young man walking with them, but they are not holding hands.  The young man is Manises who was coming with the Elders to English class which we do every week on Friday at 4:00 at the Telemar branch.   There are between 2 and 10 people that come on any particular day but it is alwa...

  Sunday August 6, 2023 Today is Fast and Testimony Sunday for all of us in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Hermana Chappell has been feeling sick today and yesterday so she stayed home today but I went to church at the Telemar branch which is the church pictured above.  We attend Tela Branch and then Telemar every other week.  Today it was our turn to go to Telemar.   Which made the Telemar members happy,  usually fast and testimony meeting here in the Telemar branch is somewhat slow with big spaces of time between testimonies, so they appreciate us being there to offer two more testimonies to take up some of the time.  But today was totally different, there was no spare time at all between testimonies and I didn't even have an opportunity to get up and share my testimony which I was planning on doing today.  I think today was actually the first fast Sunday since we have been here where I did not share my testimony.
